Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Please see our Facebook Page - Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School for our most recent updates since May 2025.

As part of our What ever the weather topic, last week in Tots we started to learn about rain . Our favourite activity was jumping in the biggest puddles!
Year 5 are enjoying their personalised learning using Whizz Maths. In 5RL, we currently have 7 children in the Hall of Fame. Will everyone have made it by the end of the week?
As Mathematicians, Year 4 have been identifying obtuse angles in shapes this morning.
Happy Talking Tuesday! Year 4 have been playing the 'consensus circle' oracy game this morning.
As Digital Creators, Year 2 have been creating digital art. We created different patterns by "tinkering" around with different pen colours, pen thickness and shapes. We had a go at creating animal patterns. Take a look at our work!
We had a great time at Heronswood's first ever "girls only" football club! The girls practised their dribbling skills with games of Queen of the Ring, followed by a match. Well done to all of the footballers today.
In topic we have been scientists this week:
We have been very impressed with the Reception children's learning behaviours this week.
As we have been finding out about Spring and the changes we see in the natural world, children have been making links with important vocabulary from previous topics.
For example we have retrieved our previous learning & understanding of the concepts of migration & hibernation and seen how animals behave as the weather starts to get warmer and Spring begins in our country.
Look out for signs of Spring when you're out and about.
Reception have started an Expressive Art and Design project. We have been exploring how artists make observations and try to replicate what they see using pencil marks. We observed a flower and discussed what shapes could be found within it. We discussed and compared two different pieces of artwork and shared what we thought about them. We then tried to replicate different shapes using a variety of mark making techniques.
As scientists, Year 5 enjoyed dissecting daffodils to help discover the different parts of a plant.
