Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
Our class teachers are Mrs Weston, Mrs Dyson (Mon-Weds) and Ms Fleming (Thurs-Fri). Our teaching assistants are Miss Hussey, Mrs Hill and Mrs Barker. Mrs Thomson and Mrs Jones also teach us on Wednesday afternoon.
In our class the rules and expectations are built around the core values of our school.

We also use Class Dojo to celebrate children's achievements in demonstrating these values and behaviours.
English Information
Reading is crucial in everything that children do. We aim to nurture a love of reading and encourage children to read a wide range of texts. It is a whole school expectation that children read five times per week and we monitor this using the home school diaries. We teach reading through Phonics and Storybook sessions.
Maths Information
The principal focus of mathematics teaching in Year 2 is to ensure that children become increasingly fluent with whole numbers, fractions and the four operations, including number facts and the concept of place value. This should ensure that children develop efficient written and mental methods and perform calculations accurately. Children should also develop their ability to solve a range of problems and develop mathematical reasoning. By the end of year 2, pupils should be fluent with the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables and be able to use these in a variety of situations.
Discrete Maths lessons are taught on a daily basis although Maths is linked to topic where possible. Children are encouraged to use and apply their Maths skills through real life situations.
PE and Kit Information
Our PE day is a Friday. Please come to school dressed in your PE kit on this day. The PE kit is as follows:
Navy shorts, white polo shirt, white socks, navy joggers, navy jumper and trainers. (Please note: sun hats will be needed during the summer). All items of the PE kit should be clearly labelled.
Homework
Reading remains a priority and we expect the children to read at least 5 times a week with an adult. All children will have an Oxford Owl log in and this resource can be used at home to access assigned reading books. They will also have a Seesaw account where each week personalised Phonics pathways will be shared along with Maths homework and Spellings.. Please ensure you access these as they are essential in supporting your child to learn to read. All children also have NumBots and Spelling Shed logins and these resources can be used at home to encourage further learning.
