Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Our class teachers are Miss Jenkins and Mr Partridge. Our teaching assistants are Miss Ficken and Miss Gregg.  Mrs Thomson and Mrs Jones teach on a Wednesday morning.

Behaviour expectations are built around our school STARS values:

We also use Class Dojo to celebrate children's achievements in demonstrating these values and behaviours.

PE and Kit Information

PE is on Tuesday.  Please come to school in PE kit each Tuesday. School PE kit is as follows:

Navy shorts or PE skirt (Skort), white polo shirt, white socks, navy joggers, navy jumper and trainers.  (Please note: sun hats will be needed during the summer).

Reading

Reading is crucial to everything that children do in school and indeed, everyday life.  We nurture a love of reading and encourage the children to read every day in class and to read for pleasure.

Children should be reading at home as often as possible and at least 5 times a week. Please talk with your child about the books they are reading. Just ten minutes reading a day builds up to many hours over time. This will make the difference to the progress your child makes in school in all subjects and their enjoyment of reading.

Please sign your child’s Home School Diary each time he/she reads at home. Weekly, we record how many times each child has read at home.   Children who are unable to read at home will read in school.

Homework

Year 3 children will also have Maths and English homework on a weekly basis. These will be set on Seesaw.   Children who are unable to complete Seesaw tasks at home will complete at school with a TA during lunchtimes.

It is really important that children are encouraged to complete homework independently but then supported when necessary. Please feel free to leave a note on Seesaw if children are struggling with their homework.

Your child has usernames and passwords for Seesaw, Oxford Owl, Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Shed in their diaries. Please use these valuable platforms at home to support your child’s learning.
