Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School

Forest School

At Heronswood, Forest School provides our children with a space to think, create, explore and investigate. Forest School provides opportunities for children to develop their imaginative thinking in an inspiring outdoor environment. It is our role as adults to enable children to stimulate thinking and challenge themselves. Supported risk-taking enables children to open the boundaries of their thinking and explore new ideas.

Forest school sessions may provide woodland skills development, using tools -such as bow saws-, penknives and axes, lighting a fire and managing trees through coppicing.  Utilising these skills can spark children's imagination. The environment can be developed into a Celtic settlement, a re-enactment of Egyptian life, a science park, a living museum or a setting for traditional tales.
