Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Please see our Facebook Page - Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School for our most recent updates since May 2025.

In Reception this week we have been investigating the question 'Do ducks get wet?'. We investigated what we mean by waterproof and tested some materials to find out if they are waterproof. We learnt about ducks preening and using preening oil to keep their feathers waterproof. We designed coats and umbrellas out of waterproof material for ducklings and even ventured outside into the rain to see if our own coats were waterproof or water resistant.
As Writers, Year 6 have been creating newspaper reports for the events that occurred in their poem, The Highwayman. They have been editing their work and have created some fantastic pieces!
This week, Year 5 have enjoyed learning about the Lego Story. They have immersed themselves fully with the little brick as well as the creator Ole Christiansen.
As Computational Thinkers, Year 4 have been learning about how to keep safe on the internet - identifying phishing attempts.
Year 3 have been looking closely at different carbohydrates. We evaulated them by looking at their appearance, texture, smell and of course taste! Which do you think we enjoyed the most?
