Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.

Year 2 have had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day! They have enjoyed a live lesson listening to the story 'The Full Stop that Got Away' and illustrating the main character.
Happy World Book Day! To start the day off, children chose a teacher's favourite book from the Golden Shelf and visited them to hear them read. It is important to see teachers as readers too!
As part of our topic, exploring the story Mr Wolf's pancakes and to celebrate pancake day, we have enjoyed decorating and eating our own pancakes.
In RE, Year 1 tasted different foods that Jewish people eat when celebrating different special festivals. They tried brioche which is like challah bread for Shabbat aswell as apple dipped in honey, laktes, doughnuts and charoset. We discussed how each food represented something like sweet honey for a sweet new year.

As Writers, Year 5 have been studying the Lego story. They have really enjoyed learning about the origins of Lego and even put themselves into the shoes of Ole Christiansen, Lego's creator.
As Artists, Year 2 have been using the grid method to practise drawing in proportion and improve their accuracy.
As Historians, Year 1 have had an exciting visit from Florence Nightingale today! They have learnt all about her life and experienced what it was like to be a nurse when Florence was alive.
