Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Please see our Facebook Page - Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School for our most recent updates since May 2025.

As Scientist's Year one explored the question:
How are tractors connected to space!
The topic that the children in Pre-School have been exploring is Minibeasts, as Scientists, they have loved engaging in lots of learning opportunities including a minibeast hunt in the woodland area, playdough insects, caterpillar lifecycles, minibeast sorting and much much more!
Today, Year 3 enjoyed a live lesson as part of Science week. Ask your children if they can answer the question: "How are pigs connected to jumbo jets?"
As Historians, Year 2 had an exciting visit from the captain of the Titanic, Captain Smith, this afternoon. We learned so many new facts and enjoyed hearing all about the captain's life and how the 'unsinkable' ship met its fate!
This week we have been celebrating Science week. The theme has been Connections. Yesterday, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed learning about how sheep are connected to seaweed.
As Scientists during Science week, Year Six have been wondering- how are sheep connected to seaweed? We learnt that wool is a fantastic insulator, which can be very useful for Firefighters . We also learned that wool can be used as a biodegradable vehicle for fish and seaweed to grow their offspring.
As Scientists, to celebrate Science week, Year 4 have been investigating how pigs are connected to jumbo jets.

5CH had a wonderful day as experimental archaeologists at Harvington Hall yesterday. We learned all about life in a Tudor house and had the chance to explore Tudor clothing, dance, deportment, table manners, artefacts and board games. We also saw the hides that Catholic priests were hidden in when searchers came looking for them. Some children even had a go at hiding themselves. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and the children made us so proud.
5RL thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Harvington Hall yesterday. We spent the morning playing Tudor games, learning about Tudor entertainment, studying artefacts and learning Tudor table manners. The highlight for many children was seeing and entering the Priest holes on our tour of the house.
