Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Please see our Facebook Page - Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School for our most recent updates since May 2025.

This week in Topic the Reception children have been exploring geography and science themes with our focus on Polar Regions.
We have explored new vocabulary and the children have been brilliant explaining this new vocabulary. We have begun to explore the similarities and differences between the Arctic and Antarctic. We even visited the school library to find books about the polar regions and maps of the world.
Ask your children to share what they have learned.
Some of the questions we have been exploring:
-What is the climate like in the polar regions?
-Why can we not see the Arctic on a map?
-Where is the coldest place on Earth?
-Which animals like to live where it is cold?
-How do they keep warm?
As Mathematicians, Year 6 have been dividing proper fractions by whole numbers.
As Historians, Year 2 have been exploring what life was like on board the Titanic in different classes.
As Geographers, Year 5 have considered different viewpoints as to whether a wind farm should be built on Spennells. They particularly enjoyed the debate that followed.
Year 1 as Scientists have been exploring which material is the best for the Three little Pigs.
For Children's Mental Health Week, Year 2 have been thinking about how they can stay connected and what we can do to feel happy.
The children in KS2 were really lucky to be visited by our local MP Mark Garnier this morning, for a special assembly about our British Values. He discussed his job as a member of parliament, how democracy works and was probed with some thought-provoking questions by the budding politicians at Heronswood!
To celebrate Number Day, Year 3 have been exploring ... If 8 is the answer, what is the question? Can you think of any more questions it could be ? #numberday #year3maths
