Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Please see our Facebook Page - Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School for our most recent updates since May 2025.

During Children's Mental Health week, Year 4 explored different emotions and what can affect them. We also used our Yoga session to be mindful and we thought of ways we can use breathing to help us let go of our worries! #ChildrensMentalHealthWeek #place2be
As geographers we have been exploring Chinese New Year
As Geographers, Year 1 went on a walk around our local area. We used a map and followed a route. We looked at the symbols on our maps and spotted shops, a park and our school.
As readers Pre-School have focused on the text Each Peach Pear Plum, we have focused on making porridge, healthy foods, feeding baby bunting.
Pre-School have really enjoyed learning about healthy eating this week, cutting and tasting fruit at snack time alongside their friends. Practising their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination to safely cut melon, strawberries and banana, the best bit was the tasting after selecting fruit to thread onto their own skewers. The children shared their likes and dislikes in food too. Pre-School were super proud of the the children that tried all of the different flavours.
In Reception, we have been becoming scientists! We have been exploring scientific equipment and learning all about astronauts and space travel.
As Physicists, Year 5 have had a fantastic afternoon researching space exploration. Some of the children even presented their findings to the class.
We welcomed Ollie Tunmer into our Music lesson on Wednesday. We explored body percussion, rhythm and pulse. Ollie is a drummer and percussionist and the children had fun taking part in his workshop!
The Tots children have been very creative making some lovely snowmen pictures!
