Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Please see our Facebook Page - Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School for our most recent updates since May 2025.

As Writers, Year 2 have been reading the traditional tale Little Red Riding Hood. We explored what thoughts and feelings Little Red and wolf would have at different points in the story.
As Musicians, Year 2 have investigated the different parts of an orchestra. Can they tell you at home? The answers we are looking for are: strings, percussion, woodwind and brass.
Children sorted instruments into the four parts and enjoyed listening to different types of orchestras including one that retold the story of Goldilocks!
As Readers, Year 5 have used clues to predict what their next text would be about. They found a shiny stone out on the field, which doubled in size over night!
Year 3 have been learning how to make different point and patch balances and developing the skills needed for a successful balance.
In Reception we have been learning all about the season of Winter. We have discussed the migration of birds and the hibernation of hedgehogs. We went on a winter walk to spot the signs of winter and we created wintery pictures and icy snowflakes.
As readers, Pre-School have been sharing the book Dear Zoo, they have been drawing their own animals, painting different size giraffes, creating homes for animals using blocks and learning about the different environments the animals live in.
As Physicists, Year 4 enjoyed doing a 'sound walk' around the school this afternoon.
As Readers, the Year 6 children have predicted what their next English text would be about. They found clues around the playground to base their predictions on. At the end of the lesson, they found out that their next text was the well-known poem, the Highwayman.
As part of our Topic Festivals and Celebrations this week Reception have been learning all about Christmas. We learnt about the Christmas Story and linked it with our own Nativity play. Our Nativity play practice is well underway with children practicing their lines and songs. We have been visited by Eric the Elf who has been up to all sorts of mischief in our middle room, he also delivered our Christmas decorations which the children were fantastic at putting up and our advent calendars.
