Heronswood Primary School and Pre-School
At Heronswood, we strive to make the time our children spend at school as fun, exciting, engaging and as memorable as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they have an emotional connection to the activities they are participating in. We do this through a stimulating, vibrant curriculum but also by bringing in outside people and by taking the children out on trips and visits.
Click on any of the News Posts below to find out what exciting things our children have been up to.
As Writers, Year 2 have published letters as Red Crayon, Pink Crayon and Green Crayon to Duncan based on the book "The Day the Crayons Quit". We think their letters are very persuasive!
Members of our choir visited Herons Park Nursing Home to spend time with the residents and sing Christmas Carols. Some residents even joined in! It was fantastic bringing some festive cheer to the local community. Merry Christmas!
As Designers, Year 6 have been creating meat-free recipes and then making one! They have practised their cooking skills and created a five-bean chilli with guacamole. We are sure that they would love to practise these skills at home by making their families a tasty dinner!
As mathmaticians in Pre-School we have been focusing on A B patterns and matching numeral to value 1-10.
As designers, Year 3 have been learning about the problem of plastics in our oceans. We have designed machines using pnematics, levers and linkages to to combat this and remove the harmful materials from our beautiful oceans and to keep sealife safe.
This week the mathematicians in Reception have been partitioning 4 & 5. We have been exploring part - whole, how whole values are made up of smaller parts. We have used numicon, Numberblocks, five frames & part whole boards to explore this.
1 is a part and 4 is a part.
The whole is 5.
2 is a part and 3 is a part.
The whole is 5.
As part of topic this week Pre-School have been learning all about Chritmas. We have been reading stories about Elves, decorating baubles, ordering baubles by size, making stick elves and decorating Christmas trees with loose parts. What a busy week!
As Biologists, Year 6 have been learning all about the circulatory system. They are presenting everything they have learnt in their fantastic information sheets.
As Scientists, Year 2 have been investigating properties of materials. They have explored if they can change the shape of an object and carried out an investigation today.
