PE and Kit Information
Our PE day is on a Thursday.
It is really important that the children have a suitable PE kit in school every day in case of changes please..
The PE kit is as follows:
Navy shorts, white polo shirt, white socks, navy joggers, navy jumper and trainers. (Please note: sun hats will be needed during the summer)
All items of the PE kit should be clearly labelled and kept in a PE bag with the child’s name on the outside.
In addition to this, please can all pupils bring a coat at all times of the year.
Reading
Reading is crucial to everything that children do. We nurture a love of reading and encourage the children to read every day in class and to read for pleasure. We teach reading through small group Guided Reading lessons which take place every day. Children should be reading at home as often as possible and at least 5 times a week. Talk with your child about the books they are reading. Just 5 minutes reading a day builds up to many hours over time. This will make the difference to the progress your child makes in reading and their enjoyment of reading.
Please sign your child’s Home School Diary whenever he/she reads at home. Each Friday we monitor how many times each child has read at home and we also award a Reader of the week.
Writing
Skills are practised in Topic lessons; Grammar lessons and in English lessons. We are teaching the children to be ‘writers’ - to think, write and edit their work as writers do.
Maths
You can help your child by practising their Tables with them regularly. Again, this should only be in short bursts of time – in the car, walking to school or with an App on your phone. Knowing their tables is essential to being a successful mathematician!
Homework and reading
Spellings are sent home on a weekly basis for all children and the test will be on a Friday each week. In addition, the red homework books will be sent home each week with either a piece of Maths or a piece of English homework relating to work covered in lessons. The children will also need to learn the 3, 4 and 8 times tables by heart in addition to the 2, 5 and 10 from Year 2 to use in their maths work this year. The year four children in our class will need to know all of the multiplication tables up to 12 times 12 by the end of the year. They will also have Maths and English homework on a weekly basis. In addition to this, they will also be expected to read every evening to an adult.
Reading remains a priority and we expect the children to read at least 5 times a week with an adult. It is really important that with all homework the children are encouraged to complete it independently but then supported when necessary.
Topic Information for the Term
You will find links to the topic web for each term in 'The Curriculum' subsection in 'About Us'. The topic web will allow you to see what your child is covering across the curriculum during this academic year.
Unlocking Learning
All children have a Phonics Bug login and this resource can be used at home to encourage more reading. Please support your child in using the following websites.
Remember that your child has usernames and passwords for Education City, Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Shed in their diaries. Please use them at home to support their learning.
